Salt Lake Mayor Rocky Anderson PWNS Sean Hannity

It was a messy, nasty debate.  At times I could barely stand to watch, because of the disorder.  However, through the whole debate we saw a couple constant themes appear:

Rocky Anderson:  Stuck to the facts, attacked the president based on his facts.

Sean Hannity:  Attacked Rocky Anderson, called to “Support the Troops.” and avoided defending the president.

I wasn’t really surprised by the tone of the debate, however, I think Hannity may have been surprised by the veracity of the crowd.  The crowd was surprisingly about equally divided between supporters and skeptics of the war in Iraq.

The Mormons — PBS Frotline / American Experience

Tonight the wife and I watched part one of “The Mormons,” a PBS documentary about the history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  It was a fairly interesting 2 hours that appeared to try to honestly be fair and balanced.  My great question is what did actual mormons think about this documentary?

Utah’s Attorney General is full of shit.

I am happy to see that Utah’s attorney general, Mark Shurtleff is in line with the Republican hacks who believe things are going well in Iraq.  In a really useful speech the attorney general referred to Senate Majority leader as  “Hezbolla Harry.” He also compared Mayor Rocky Anderson to World War II traitors.  Thanks Mark Shurtleff for showing the close minded people of Utah that is it unpatriotic to see reality.  You know the bible says something like thou shalt not kill, but I guess God is just a weak minded idiot who would gladly surrender to terrorists.

Day Light Savings Time Bugs – This is a real issue

I love Day Light Savings Time. It gives me light outside when I want it. I was very excited when congress made the change to add an additional 4 weeks of time. On the other hand I do work in Information Technology and as such the implications to computer systems are very real. So many things that our computers do are dependent on time. As many of you remember there was a real fear when the year 2000 came that our computers would not be able to tell what day it was. In response to the number change countless firms invested time, money, and people in remedying the situation. Today few seem to have even acknowledged the issue of changing Day Light Savings time with relatively short notice. Blackberry, provider of smart phones and enterprise-class e-mail push technology released a DST fix this month, merely one month before the switch. Few people seem to be discussing this issue in the blogosphere and the mainstream media. Slashdot recently featured an article on this very issue, but it seems to diminish the seriousness of this issue. I think the threat of problems is real and I do not take this change lightly. Yet another way the Republicans have pwned me.

Democrats Are In Control

Nancy Pelosi

Oh yes it is sweet and awesome to see democracy in action.  I really am happy to see the Democrats back in power.  Lets keep our eye on Pelosi and company to make sure that they put America back on track!

Mormons in the news.

As a member, all be it possibly an extreme jack Mormon member, of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, it is my duty to report on what other members are doing in the world. Last Thursday Senator Gordon Smith R-Oregon, broke ranks with the president and withdrew his support of current policy in Iraq. Senator Smith claimed that the policy may be immoral because we continue to employ policies that have failed. I have to hand it to the Senator here— he is speaking plainly and honestly about the war. I get a strong feeling that Iraq will continue to divide the Republican party because of the way it relies on the personal convictions of one of the last Americans who still strongly supports the war —> George W. Bush.

Oh yeah and I bet Gordon Smith can dissent and still be a good Mormon 🙂

Happy Shopping.., er Holidays

Well I write tonight in anticipation of Thanksgiving.  What a cool holiday.  I get two days off of work.  It’s like Christmas, but without the presents. And then the next day I get to get killer deals from the consumer product pimps.  All sarcasm aside, I am really excited for this holiday and the shopping that follows.  I think I am going to get the 500 gig hard drive from office max to store all of my extra crap.

God bless Thanksgiving.

Full Sweep

What a wonderful week.  We have seen the end of the Republican majority, and the end of Allen and Santorum!  I am excited to see Pelosi and Reed control the House and Senate.  And for those Utahns who feel like they have lost their voice in congress, remember that the new Senate Majority leader is a Mormon!

HELL YEAH! Democrats control the HOUSE!

Oh is this good.  We are back in control of the House.  Plus we have pickups in the Senate.  No more Santorum; no more Dewine, and no more speaker Hastert.
